Dome of Rock

The Dome of the Rock (Masjid Qubbat as-Sakhrah) atop the Temple Mount (al-Haram al-Qudsi al-Sharif). Completed in 691, it houses the rock from which Muhammad ascended to heaven in his night journey. An aluminum-bronze alloy makes the dome shine like gold.
